Alternative Energy Ireland was acquired for an unknown sum and has grown to become a significant supplier of solar PV technology to the agricultural industry
While interest in solar PV in Northern Ireland is at an all-time high, suppliers of solar PV systems say they feel left behind compared with those south of the border due to the lack of grants.
The provisional outcome of Ireland's first offshore auction has been released, revealing a surprising average support price of €86.05/MWh, well below the mooted price of up to €150/MWh.
Billy Kelleher MEP claims that farmers could have been allowed to sell electricity back to the grid for profit and receive grants for solar panels under certain EU measures.
To apply for the scheme, farmers had to be tax compliant and have experienced an increase of 50% or more in their electricity and/or natural gas unit price over the winter period.
A public consultation has been launched into Northern Ireland's strategic planning policy on renewable and low-carbon energy developments, to ensure it remains fit for purpose and up to date.
